VIDEO: Pharaohs Abroad Recap
Elmo impresses once again with Hull, Mido is set leave Barnsley and the Egyptians go head-to-head in the UAE Pro League,
KingFut’s weekly coverage of Pharaohs Abroad continues…
Ahmed Elmohamady – Hull City 2-0 Huddersfield
Hull City earned a well deserved 3 points against Huddersfield in the Championship. Ahmed Elmohamady played an action-filled 90 minutes. The Tigers are now level on points with Middlesbrough, one point behind second-placed Crystal Palace who occupy the second automatic promotion spot.
Adam El-Abd – Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Brighton remains outside the play-off places after a stalemate with Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium. Egyptian international Adam El-Abd played a solid 90 minutes in his second game after his return from injury which kept him out for a month. El-Abd helped his side keep a clean sheet but Brighton has now gone three matches without a victory.
Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ – Barnsley FC 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday
Mido, who is almost certain to leave Barnsley, was not included in the squad as they lost again – this time to fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday. It was confirmed by Barnsley boss Keith Hill that the Egyptian striker is set to leave the club as the plan to resurrect his career hasn’t worked out.
Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ – Beira Mar 3-1 Rio Ave – Liga ZON Sagres
After coming on for his senior debut for Rio Ave in the Portuguese League last week, 19-year-old Egyptian starlet Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ continued his run in the team by coming on to play the full 45 minutes of the second half. Koka couldn’t help his team from losing 1-3 to Beira Mar but the number 18 striker had a few close calls of his own (see video below). Rio Ave now drop to 5th place in the Liga.
Lierse SK coach Hany Ramzy – Egypt’s first manager in Europe – couldn’t guide his side to victory against bottom side Cercle Bruges at home. Lierse settled for a 1-1 draw but were loudly supported from the stands including the squad of parent club Wadi Degla, who are in Belgium for a training camp. It’s Ramzy’s first point in 4 matches, however, he will be extremely disappointed to concede in the final minute of the game against 9-men; especially after Tunisian centre-half Saidi missed a penalty, giving away a crucial 3 points. Egyptian centre-half Ahmed Said ‘Okka’ played the full 90 minutes for the Belgian outfit and fellow Egyptian striker Dodo El-Gabbas had several close chances but it was Bourabia, the Moroccan, who opened the scoring for Lierse in the first minute of the second half. Lierse SK remains in the relegation zone.
The Lierse reserves also played Wadi Degla this week, and lost 1-0 after a fantastic passing-play:
Shika scored as both Egyptians leave the pitch injured. In the clash of Egyptians in the UAE Pro League, Bani Yas claimed a deserved 3-1 win victory with Shikabala scoring the consolation goal for Al-Wasl with a trade-mark left footed effort. Zidan only lasted 14 minutes and was forced off with what seems like a knee injury, and was followed by Shikabala an hour later who sustained a thigh injury that forced him off 15 minutes from time.
