Ahmed Samir, Egypt and El-Dakhleya’s wing-back, is a talented left-footed footballer who was one of the key players in the 2013 U-20 African Championship winning side. Rising through the ranks of El-Dakhleya FC, Ahmed Samir continues to excel and has already impressed the senior technical staff, thus securing his place with the club’s first team this season.
El-Dakhleya’s first team manager Alaa Abdelaal promoted Samir, who will turn 19 in August, to the senior squad just before the start of the 2012-2013 season. Despite Ahmed Samir being the youngest member of the squad, he managed to climb up the ranks within his club and has featured in all of El-Dakhleya’s Egyptian Premier League games during the second half of the season. On February 3rd, 2013, Samir came on for his side on the 72nd minute during his side’s 1-0 win against Arab Contractors. Two weeks later he made his full debut in his side’s 1-2 defeat against Ismaily SC. He scored two goals so far in this campaign, one of which was a well-taken penalty against Cairo giants Zamalek.
Ahmed Samir has shown his versatility this year playing in different positions for club and country. Although Samir played as a left wing-back throughout his youth career, the position he continues to impress in for the Egypt U-20 side, he mainly plays as a right attacking midfielder for his club. In either position, Samir enjoys taking on defenders often outpaces them on the flanks. However, when employing in the left wing-back position, he sometimes doesn’t track back, which could be due to his low stamina.
Samir was an essential part of Rabie Yassin’s winning side during the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria, forming a terrific partnership with ENPPI’s left-winger Ahmed Refaat. Samir scored from the spot in the final penalty shoot-out against Ghana, which won Egypt the U-20 African championship in Algeria. The Dakhleya starlet will aim to continue his bright start on the international stage with the Young Pharaohs this month at the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey, where Egypt will contest with England, Chile, and Iraq in the same group.
Ahmed Samir cemented his place in El-Dakhleya’s side in the 2013-2014 season, after having trials at FC Porto and Randers FC in Denmark.
