Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ returned to action for Hull City after a 6-month absence whilst Mohamed Salah continued his fine form by scoring for Swiss League leaders FC Basel.
KingFut.com recaps all the action of Egyptians playing in foreign lands this week.
Hull City 1-0 West Ham
Ahmed Elmohamady had a great game as Hull City recorded a 1-0 victory over West Ham to take them 7th in the League. Elmohamady played in right midfield for the first time this season with his cross in the 12th minute leading to a Hull City penalty. Later on in the first half he made a goal-line clearance to deny West Ham an equalizer and just before the half-time break he was unlucky not to find the back of the net when his header was palmed onto the post by West Ham keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Ipswich Town 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
Adam El-Abd didn’t come off the bench as his side were defeated 2-0 by Ipswich Town thanks to two goals in four minutes by David McGoldrick.
Preston North End 2-1 Swindon Town
Swindon lost 2-1 at Preston North End after conceding twice before making a spirited effort to get back into the game in the second half. Mohamed ‘Dodo’ El-Gabas came on as a substitute with 15 minute remaining, just before Swindon pulled a goal back.
Chesterfield 0-1 Mansfield Town
Chesterfield suffered their first defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss at home at the hands of local rivals Mansfield Town. Sam Morsy played the entire 90 minutes and had a header that rebounded off the crossbar and a decent shot from distance but the Mansfield defense would not be beaten. Morsy looked to have been brought down in the area by a defender, but the referee produced a yellow card instead for diving.
Swindon Town 0-2 Chelsea (Midweek)
El-Gabas came on as a second half substitute as two first half goals from Torres and Ramires gave Chelsea the win.
Hull City 1-0 Huddersfield Town (Midweek)
Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ returned to Hull City as a second half substitute for Matt Fryatt. Ahmed Elmohamady was an unused substitute as Hull City made it to the 4th round of the Carling Cup for the first time since 1977.
FC Sion 2-2 FC Basel
Basel had thought they had done enough when Mohamed Salah‘s 65th minute goal gave them the 2-1 lead (after goals from Vanczak and Stocker had leveled the score-line) however league leaders FC Basel were denied the full three points when Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Assifuah equalised with three minutes of regulation time to play. Mohamed El-Nenny made a brief appearance coming on in the 83rd minute.
FC Luzern 1-1 FC Thun
Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ played the last four minutes of Luzern’s 1-1 home stalemate with Thun.
FC Thun 0-2 FC Basel (Midweek)
Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Nenny both started in Basel’s midweek league game against FC Thun. El-Nenny played the full 90 minutes whilst Salah was replaced after 85 minutes by Gaston Sauro.
FC Chiasso 2-0 FC Biel-Bienne (Midweek)
Sherif Ashraf started his first game in Switzerland as Biel-Bienne lost 2-0 to Zambrotta’s FC Chiasso. Ashraf, whose been in fine form with the second division Swiss side, was replaced after 57 minutes.
Liga ZON Sagres
Rio Ave 0-3 Nacional
Joane 2-1 AD Oliveirense
Egypt U-20 striker Ahmed ‘Mocha’ Mokhtar played his first game for Oliveirense this weekend after his international clearance arrived on Thursday. Mokhtar assisted Oliveirense’s goal and even hit the post but it wasn’t enough as his side lost 2-1 to Joane.
Lommel United 2-3 Lierse SK (Midweek)
Hossam Ghaly scored an injury time winner as Lierse made a remarkable comeback to beat Lommel United in the Belgian Cup to reach the round of 16.
RSC Anderlecht 2-0 Lierse SK
Hossam Ghaly and Ahmed Samir Farag played the full 90 minutes as Lierse suffered a defeat to Egyptian legend Ahmed Hassan’s former side Anderlecht. Lierse lacked any spark and looked fatigued after the midweek cup game.
