Gedo returned to Al Ahly, Brighton’s longest serving player El-Abd moved to Bristol City and the Swiss Pharaohs took part in friendlies with their respective clubs.

Norwich City 1-0 Hull City
Hull City were beaten away at Carrow Road to Norwich in a lack-lustering performance from the Tigers. Ahmed Elmohamady started in his usual right-wing back position.

Brighton & Hove Albion – Bristol City
Adam El-Abd left his childhood club Brighton to sign for League One outfit Bristol City. He had played over 300 games for the Seagulls and was their longest-serving player having been in the first team for 13 years and at the club for 20.
Southend United 3-0 Chesterfield FC
Chesterfield suffered a blow to their League One promotion fight as they lost 3-0 to fellow contenders Southend United. Sam Morsy started in midfield and it only took a minute for the energetic Egyptian to get booked. During the game he had two shots on target that were both saved by the Southend keeper.
Hamburger SV 4-2 FC Basel
Mohamed Salah started in Basel’s winter break friendly game against Bundesliga side Hamburger. Salah had the first chance of the game after six minutes to test the keeper. Basel took the lead in the 13th minute when Matias Delgado scored. HSV scored two goals in quick succession to bring the scoreline 2-1 at half time. In the 58th minute Lasogga gave HSV a 3-1 lead but it was brief as Sio brought it back to 3-2 in the 60th minute. Mohamed El-Nenny came on in the 61st minute and HSV finished the game off in the 78th minute when Lasogga scored his second of the game. Shortly after the goal Salah was substituted off.
Steaua Bucuresti 0-1 FC Luzern
Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’s FC Luzern managed a 1-0 win in Marbella, Spain in a friendly game against Romanian side Steaua București. The only goal of the game came in the 86th minute from Daniel Gygax.
Lierse 1-1 Club Brugge
Hossam Ghaly started in central midfield in Lierse’s clash with fourth placed Club Brugge. Brugge took the lead in the 51st minute when Victor Vazquez found the net. Ghaly was replaced by Kosadin Hazurov in the 81st minute who went on to equalise for Lierse in the 91st minute.
Rio Ave 1-0 Belenenses
Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ was an 80th minute addition to Portuguese side Rio Ave and within eight minutes of him coming on Rio found the net thanks to Luis Gustavo in the 88th minute.
