Mohamed Salah signs for Chelsea

Egypt international has completed his move to English Premier League side FC from FC , Chelsea’s official website announced.

21-year-old Salah signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea on Sunday, tying him to the club till summer 2019.

Mohamed Salah joins from Swiss champions FC Basel for a fee in the region of £11 million, which makes him the most expensive Egyptian player of all time.

On signing for Chelsea, Salah said: “I’m very happy to sign for such a big club. I hope I can make the Chelsea supporters happy.”

Jose Mourinho had already confirmed the signing prior to Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Stoke City on Sunday afternoon.

After the match, Jose smiled when he said: “First of all, he [Salah] scores against Chelsea.”

“Salah is the kind of player that looks for space and tries to get in behind, so we think it’s a good decision,” he added.

Mohamed Salah becomes the first-ever Egyptian to sign for Chelsea and the 9th to join a club in the English Premier League.

Salah will wear the number 15 jersey with Chelsea, which was previously worn by Kevin De Bruyne and Florent Malouda.

Salah needs to impress in his first few games for Chelsea if he wants to be the starting right winger for Chelsea in the future. But Salah has an advantage. There`s so many attacking midfielders at Chelsea but Salah is now the only LEGITIMATE right winger at Chelsea. For the first half of the season, Shurrle and Willian who are naturally left wingers were forced to play on the right wing because Hazard would always play at Left wing. Now since Salah is the only player at Chelsea where right wing is his preferred position, he has a huge chance to be that starting right winger for hopefully the rest of his Chelsea career. If he doesn`t impress in his first few games, he`ll just replace Mata on the bench for Chelsea and Mourinho will continue to play Willian and Shurrle over Salah at the right wing position. I still think Liverpool would`ve been the better move for him but best of luck to Salah. Make Egyptians proud.

Thanks for that analysis. I knew the starting Chelsea players but I wasn’t a close follower of Chelsea’s full squad situation before Salah signed there.
