Egyptian Premier League Roundup – Matchday Nine
Another week of arguably Africa’s finest league has concluded with some memorable results and matches. Here’s what happened in this round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly 0-0 Ittihad El-Sakandary
Dennis Lavagne’s men drew with the Cairo giants at the Cairo Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Red Devils continue their dismal run of form which has seen them win only one game in four. Za’eem El Thaghr continue their drastic improvement, sitting in 4th place and they are yet to lose a game.
Arab Contractors 1-1 Entag El-Harby
The Mountain Wolves failed to capitalise on Al Ahly’s stumble and could only manage a 1-1 draw with Entag. In-form striker Mohamed Farouk put Contractors ahead in what was his fifth goal this campaign before the visitors equalised through the on-fire Bassem Morsi whose well placed free-kick found the net.
Al Ragaa 1-0 Dakhleya
The Marsa Matruh outfit are beginning to adapt to life in the top flight as they climb to 8th in the standings of Group A. Tamer Moheb’s penalty five minutes from time gave Ayman Mezayen’s men their second win this season.
ENPPI 1-2 Smouha
The Alexandria outfit overcame two-time cup winners ENPPI to continue their fight for the top spot. Samuel Oso gave Smouha the lead with a left-footed strike before Ahmed Hamoudi doubled the visitor’s lead with a volley. ENPPI then found the net through Nader El Ashry’s header, but Smouha managed to claim all three points.
Al Masry 0-1 Petrojet
The petroleum side extended their lead at the top of Group B to five points with a win over Al Masry in Agroud. James Tibi scored the only goal of the game with a header after notching onto Hesham Abo Khalil’s cross. Al Masry on the other hand remain on 11 points in 5th place.
Ittihad El-Shorta 2-1 Qanah
Ittihad El Shorta managed to claim all three points against Qanah in Abassia. Khaled Qamar opened the scoring before Maaruf Yusuf doubled Shorta’s lead. Qanah then scored a goal late on through Khaled Setouhi but it only proved to be a consolation.
Tala’a El Gaish 2-4 Wadi Degla
In a six-goal thriller, Wadi Degla managed to defeat Tala’a El Gaish in an exquisite encounter. Ibrahim El Helaly put the hosts ahead midway through the first half. Degla then scored three goals in quick succession late in the second half through Abdelfattah El Agha and Saladin Said who scored twice to make it 3-1. Khaled Rabie then pulled one back for the hosts before Mohamed Abdelwahed killed the game off with a goal of his own to make it 4-2.
