Fiorentina: Hegazy’s contract will not be terminated

Posted on December 9, 2014

The Florence-based club released a statement denying recent news that ’s contract will be terminated.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Ahmed Hegazy’s future at due to his lack of game time since his recovery from two successive anterior cruciate ligament injuries, which have kept him sidelined for almost two full seasons.

The Egypt international was recently tipped to move on loan by Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade; while some Egyptian websites concluded that he is going to be transferred in January, others claimed that his contract will be terminated.

Fiorentina released a statement regarding the matter:

Regarding what has been reported in the Egyptian media, ACF Fiorentina announces that the contract with Ahmed Hegazy is still valid. It has not been rescinded as erroneously reported and the club does not intend to do so now that the player has returned to play after the severe injury that kept him away from the pitch for a long time.

“He is a player we believe in very much and therefore we endeavour to get the best out of him now that he is fully fit.”

The towering centre-back took to Twitter to address the issue himself.

“I wish the Egyptian newspapers and websites would check for accuracy in their sources and not just copy something because someone wrote it,” tweeted Hegazy.

“Why don’t you make an effort and check if your source is right or wrong and be more accurate, or do we just want a media show in Egypt and want a title that will attract people?

“I would like to thank the people who contacted me or tried to know if the news were right or wrong.

“There being speculation that I might join another team on loan or a permanent transfer doesn’t mean that Fiorentina will be terminating their contract with me.

“I’m in a big and respectable club and I’m happy to be part of this club, even if I left to any other team, it will always have a very special place in my heart.

“Lastly, my contract is ongoing with the club and this talk [about his contract being terminated] is far from being true, thanks everyone,” Hegazy concluded.

Interest in Hegazy is thought to be high with the Egypt international being reportedly watched by Espanyol and Cheivo Verona.
