Cairo giants’ stars named best footballers in Egypt at annual awards gala

Mahmoud TrezeguetLast night multiple Al Ahly and Zamalek stars were named the best football players in Egypt at the Youth and Sports Broadcasting annual awards gala.

The ceremony took place at the Youth and Sports Broadcasting’s Ministerial Theatre on Thursday, which misled some people to think that the Ministry of Youth and Sports were the hosts.

Al Ahly and Zamalek players dominated the awards, with the Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender and Best Midfielder awards being shared between two players (one from each Cairo giant), and the Best Manager award was also shared, as they were said to have ‘equal votes’.

Al Ahly’s , , and Amr Gamal all took home awards as the best players in the respective positions, while the Red Devils’ 20-year-old central midfielder Mahmoud Trezeguet was named the best Egypt-based player.

Zamalek’s , and Ibrahim Salah were also named the best goalkeeper, defender and midfielder respectively.

The awards were not just for football players but even extended to include Egypt’s Best Handball Player and Best Squash Players.

Best Goalkeeper: Ahmed El-Shennawy & Sherif Ekramy
Best Defender: Saad Samir & Ali  Gabr
Best Midfielder: Ibrahim Salah & Hossam Ashour
Best Forward: Amr Gamal
Best Player: Mahmoud Trezeguet
Best Manager: Tarek El-Ashry & 
Best Referee: Ibrahim Nour El-Din
Best Male Player in a Solo Sport: Rami Ashour (Squash)
Best Female Player in a Solo Sport: Ranim Al-Walily
Best Handball Player: Ahmed El-Ahmar
