Tunisian duo Esperance Tunis and Sfaxien, alongside Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca, were narrowly knocked out of the continents premier competition. This meant they would drop to the Confederations Cup second knockout stage where there was always a chance of meeting the likes of Zamalek, Etoile Sahel and Vita Club.
There was also anticipation as to the fate of Sudanese sides, Merreikh and Al Hilal, and their history making Algerian counterparts; El Eulma, Setif and USM Alger.

Group A will see four times winners TP Mazembe face their bogey North African trips but will certainly be relived by the pedigree of these opponents. They will face Egyptian surprise package, Smouha and Morrocan side Maghreb Tetouan; who knocked out Ahly
Another team in the group will be Al Hilal, the Sudanese side perceived as the best team never to have won the tournament.
The other group, Group B, will feature a historic three teams from the same country and in the same group. ES Setif, El Eulma and USM Alger, all from Algeria, will be pleased by less travel as they face off against Sudanese side Al Merreikh.

CAF Confederations Cup

The Egyptians have a very superior record against Tunisian sides. Their rival, Zamalek, will look to continue their good tidings this season against DRC team Sanga Balende. Another attractive fixture will be the showdown between Etoile Sahel and Raja Casablanca.
The draw also revealed the groupings of the sides that will progress.
If Al Ahly and Zamalek progress they will be kept apart in the group stages. The former could be up against Esperance and Etoile Sahel in group A while the White knights would contend with CS Sfaxien and Orlando Pirates in group B if they manage to go through.
It’s well worth mentioning that the games will be played on the weekend of 15-17th May and on 5-7th June, 2015.
