Roma came from behind twice to pick up a point against , with and club legend Francesco Totti on the scoresheet.

Frenchman Gregoire Defrel put Sassuolo ahead after a swift counter attack, only for Roma captain Francesco Totti to equalise 14 minutes later thanks to a defensive error.

Roma had several chances wasted from the likes of Juan Iturbe and Mohamed Salah, who might consider themselves unlucky not to have scored in the first half.

The Neroverdi made them pay as Matteo Politano put them ahead in what appeared to be a shock win for the Northern Italian side going into half time.

Just after the break, a Roma corner was cleared only as far as Mohamed Salah, who volleyed it first time into the bottom corner from just outside to box to draw level.

Roma dominated possession but couldn’t break down the Sassuolo defence on a tough day for them. However, they can take some heart from the game as they made several changes from their midweek Champions League tie against Barcelona, leaving out Edin Dzeko, Lucas Digne and Iago Falque, as well as the injured Wojciech Szczesny and Leandro Castan.
