VIDEO: Antwi scores as Al Ahly beat Ittihad of Alexandria
Ghanaian striker John Antwi scored a second-half goal to give Al Ahly a 1-0 win over Ittihad of Alexandria in the 16th round of the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday.
Interim manager Abdel-Aziz ‘Zizo’ Abdel-Shafy recorded his second win in a row with the Red Castle after he took over following the departure of Jose Peseiro.

Al Ahly’s first chance in the game came in the 5th minute, when Rami Rabia’s header from Abdallah El-Said’s cross went over the bar.
Three minutes later, Mahmoud Shaaban of Ittihad of Alexandria sent a strong shot towards Al Ahly goal, but the Red Castle’s goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy diverted it into a corner.
As the match went on, Al Ahly controlled the possession, but struggled to threaten Ittihad’s goal.
In the 16th minute, the Alexandrian side made an early substitution after Mostafa Gaber pulled out a muscle injury and was replaced by Mohamed Shaarawy.
Near the half-hour mark, Zamalek loanee Youssef Obama played a through ball to the substitute Mohamed Shaarawy but the latter’s shot was an easy one for Ekramy.
The only dangerous chance in the first half was for Ramadan Sobhy who missed from point-blank range after his attempt was blocked by Ittihad’s defense.
In the last minute of the first half, John Antwi was close to open the scoring but his header went wide of the post.
Ten minutes into the second half, Zizo made his first substitution bringing on Momen Zakaria to replace Emad Meteb.
In the 64th minute, Antwi gave Al Ahly the lead after he converted a cross from Fathi following a long pass from Abdallah El-Said.

Al Ahly youngster Ahmed Hamdy came on in the 74th minute to replace Abdallah El-Said, before Zizo made his last susbstitution in the 85th minute, bringing on Amr Gamal instead of Antwi.
The five minutes of added time saw a pressing Ittihad of Alexandria trying to score an equaliser, but they failed to break through.
Al Ahly temporarily top the league table with 32 points, waiting for Zamalek match against Smouha on Sunday. Ittihad of Alexandria occupy the eighth place with 22 points.
The Egyptian Premier League will be halted after the end of the 16th round for the national team training camp ahead of the their upcoming friendlies. The Red Castle are scheduled to play against ENPPI on 3 February, in a match postponed from the fifth round of the league, before playing against Zamalek on 9 February.
