The Egypt national team was victorious over 2-0 in Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria in the final friendly match ahead of the Pharaoh’s qualifiers encounters with Nigeria late March.

A brace from midfielder Abdallah El-Said helped Egypt ease past Burkina Faso and won him the Man of the Match award.

Egypt XI: Ahmed El-Shennawy; Omar Gaber, Rami Rabia, Ahmed Hegazy, Sabry Rahil; Ibrahim Salah, Hossam Ghaly, Abdallah El-Said, Mostafa Fathi, Ramadan Sobhy; Marwan Mohsen.

First Half:

Egypt’s forwards were threatening Burkina Faso’s goal early on with the first chance coming in the sixth minute, but El-Said’s shot went over the bar following a link up play with Ramadan Sobhy. In the 12th minute, Sobhy cruised past two defenders but his shot was easily caught by the opposition’s keeper.

The visitor’s first attempt came in the 15th minute but it went far off target. Just one minute later, Ismaily’s Marwan Mohsen almost opened the scoring with a header after Sobhy played a through ball to El-Said, who crossed it to Mohsen, but it went straight to the keeper. In the 18th minute, Mohsen failed to score with his head once again, but this time his header was off target.

El-Said finally found the net in the 23rd minute with a calmly placed ball to the bottom right of Burkina Faso’s keeper. This time, it was Hossam Ghaly’s low cross from the right side that found him.

El-Said almost doubled the score in the 34th minute, but his shot was off the mark. Burkina Faso almost equalized late in the first half with two dangerous chances, but they failed to capitalize with Omar Gaber making a crucial tackle on the latter occasion.

Second Half:

Héctor Cúper sent Hamada Tolba, Nour El-Sayed and Amr Gamal in for Sabry Rahil, Hossam Ghaly, and Marwan Mohsen. This marked Hamada Tolba’s national team debut at the age of 34.

The Egyptians struggled to keep control of the tempo in the second half, having less chances on Burkina Faso’s goal and allowing them to set up chances.

In the 53rd minute, Mostafa Fathi was subbed off for Momen Zakharia. Just three minutes later, Amr Gamal was taken down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. El-Said stepped up and successfully scored his second of the night.

In the 68th minute, Abdallah El-Said was replaced by Saleh Gomaa. The Pharaohs struggled to create dangerous chances on goal until the final minutes of the match, but the forwards failed to convert them into goals. Burkina Faso could’ve pulled on back in the 82nd minute, but the shot went over the bar.

Next, the Egyptian national team will travel to Kaduna, Nigeria to face Nigeria on March 25, before hosting the Super Eagles on the 29th of March for the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.
