2017 AFCON: Egypt vs Nigeria – Live Commentary
Just four days after Egypt battled to a draw at the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna, the Pharaohs host the Super Eagles in the second half of the pair’s 2017 AFCON qualification double header, and the stakes could not be higher.
A win for Egypt would all but seal their qualification to the tournament finals in Gabon next year, and would signal the end for the West Africans’ hopes of progression; Chad’s withdrawal from Group G means that the second-placed team will not be qualifying under any circumstances whatsoever.
Should Nigeria pull off a win, however, they will be the favorites to finish at the top of the standings, and will go into the final matchday with a one point lead over Egypt, with Tanzania visiting the former at home in September.
With so much to lose for both sides, tensions will surely be running high at the Borg El Arab stadium, but who will come out on top?
Egypt XI: Shennawy; Gaber, Rabia, Hegazy, Tolba, Ibrahim Salah, Elneny, Abdullah El-Said, Ramadan Sobhy, Salah, Marwan Mohsen.
Subs: Amr Gamal, Ayman Hefny, Hazem Emam, Mohamed El-Shenawy, Ahmed Dewidar, Hossam Ghaly, Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’.
Nigeria XI: Akpeyi; Shehu, Amuzie, Ambrose, Oboabona, John Obi Mikel, Etebo, Aminu, Musa, Victor Moses, Ighalo.
Subs: Echiejile, Iheanacho, Azubuike, Simon, Ezenwa, Onazi, Iwobi.
