Mohamed Abdel-Wahed spoke to KingFut’s Omar Khairallah about his new journey with Lierse S.K and his mission with the team and why the team was falling in the past two seasons.

Abdel-Wahed retired last season after a long career that saw him play for , Tersana, Arab Contractors, Ismaily, Ghazl El-Mahalla and Wadi Degla. Moreover, Abdel-Wahed played abroad for Lierse S.K, from 2008-2011, before returning to Egypt. He also represented the Belgian side during the 2012/13 season.

Omar Khairallah: Is there any chance of the club signing Egyptian players soon?

Mohamed Abdel-Wahed: There are negotiations with a few players in Egypt, but I can’t mention names as talks are still ongoing. We are also watching a lot of players in the Egyptian Premier League.

OK: What do you think of Lierse S.K’s performances over the last two seasons ?

MAW: For the past four years, the team have struggled due to relying too much on youth. The lack of experience saw the club struggle to avoid relegation, as opposed to fighting for trophies. That will change though; we’re looking to bring in more experienced players to fix that problem.

[Wadi Degla and Lierse S.K president] Maged Samy is trying to help a lot of Egyptian players move abroad, unlike Mohamed El-Fayed (ex-Fulham owner) and Hull City owner [Assem Allam] who only purchased a single Egyptian player.

OK: What are your personal goals ?

MAW: I intend to pursue management in Europe, so I’m working towards that by taking courses and attending lots of matches to help me to make the step up and not just remain an assistant manager.

KingFut would like thank Mohamed Abdel-Wahed for him time, and wish him success at Lierse SK and in his future endeavors.
