Mahmoud Abdel-Moniem ‘Kahraba’ played all 90 minutes as Al Ittihad fell to a costly 0-1 defeat to Al Shabab, in the sixth round of the Saudi Pro League.

After a 1-1 draw with city rivals Al Ahli in late September, Al Ittihad returned to winning ways in mid-October with a 3-1 win over Al Taawon, in which Kahraba scored.

As a result, the hosts were expected to make it two wins in two when they welcomed Al Shabab on Thursday evening, as they aimed to maintain their storm early-season form.

Nevertheless, it was Al Shabab who took the lead in the 36th minute, through Mohamed Benyettou.

The visitors went on to collect three vital points after successfully shutting down their visibly frustrated opponents, to close the gap between both sides to a mere two points.

The Jeddah-based club have now fallen two points behind leaders Al Hilal, and could also be overtaken by rivals Al Ahli (albeit on goal difference) should the latter win on Friday evening.

Next up for Al Ittihad is a Saudi Crown Prince Cup quarterfinal clash with Ahmed Hamoudi’s Al Batin, which is scheduled for kickoff on Monday, October 24, followed by an away league match against Al Hilal four days later.
