Line-ups:

Al Ahly XI: Ekramy; Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Hegazy, Saad Samir, Ali Maaloul; Amr El-Sulaya, , Walid Soliman, Mido Gaber, Abdallah El-Said;

Tanta XI: Islam Tarek; Reda El-Azab, Mahmoud Shaker, Soliman Abd-Rabo, Mahmoud Massoud; Mohamed Morsi, Hussein Helmy, Mostafa Amin; Mohamed Gaber, Joseph Bissah, Mohamed Gouda.

The first half started with Ahly controlling possession and Tanta trying to regain possession by sitting deep and applying pressure to win the ball back.

In the 12th minute, first chance for Al Ahly came after Abdallah El-Said unleashed a ball from the edge of the box, but was eventually blocked by Tanta’s defence.

Two minutes later, Ajayi received a great ball that sliced through Tanta’s defense and sent him through on goal, but instead of shooting, he cut on his left and passed the ball to running Abdallah El-Said who miscontrolled his first touch and was booked for simulation after falling inside the box.

The 31st minute saw Al Ahly getting a penalty after a long ball that was aimed for Walid Soliman saw Tanta’s Mahmoud Shaker jump atop of Soliman’s back and fail to head the ball. Ali Maaloul took the penalty that was almost saved by Islam Tarek’s leg, but managed to squeeze through and roll into the middle of the net.

The second half saw Tanta open up a bit and try attacking with Mohamed Gouda in the 55th minute who managed to take on Ahmed Fathi and run into the box, but Saad Samir was there to intercept before he managed to take the shot.

Three minutes later, Ghanaian Joseph Bissah crossed the ball from the left side to Mohamed Gouda who failed to take the header for the ball to turn into a goal kick.

Momen Zakaria came on instead of Walid Soliman in the 63rd minute and then Saleh Gomaa came on three minutes later instead of Mido Gaber in an attempt by Badry to rejuvenate Ahly’s midfield.

Saleh Gomaa instantly had an impact in the 72nd minute after sending a through ball to Junior Ajayi who had a first poor touch in the box, but managed to get in a cross for Momen Zakaria on the other side who got the ball stuck under his feet and wasted a decent chance for Al Ahly.

In the 81st minute, dangerous Ajayi passed the ball to Momen Zakaria inside the box who was in a great position to take the shot, but decided instead to attempt to pass it again to Ajayi before it was intercepted by Tanta’s defense.

Hossam Ashour came on in the 84th minute instead of Abdallah El-Said to secure Ahly’s lead and shore up the midfield.

The Red Devils managed to earn three points after an unimpressive performance with a number of missed chances and lack of attacking vigour to threat lowly Tanta.

Al Ahly are now first in the Egyptian Premier League with 20 points after eight games, while still waiting for Misr El-Makasa who are second with 18 points and with one game left. Tanta are 17th in the relegation zone with only four points.
