Egyptian national team veteran refused to confess that are close to qualifying to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, following their strong start to qualifications.

Egypt sit atop Group E with six points from two games following an away victory over Congo and a crucial 2-0 win over Ghana in Alexandria.

However, Fathi urged the fans in Egypt to remain calm and cautious, stating that their job is not accomplished yet.

“I won’t believe we have qualified [to the World Cup] only after both legs against Uganda in the World Cup qualifiers because they are very difficult.”

Egypt will face Uganda in the group stage of the African Cup of Nations, before meeting again on the 28th August in Uganda and the 3rd of September in Egypt for World Cup qualifiers. According to the Al Ahly right back, these are the matches of importance in which The Pharaoh’s qualification to football’s biggest event will be determined

Fathi added in regards to his chances of making the squad, “I hope to play in the World Cup and to be with the Egyptian team in Russia, regardless of my participation in any game or not, because the most important goal is to qualify”.

Finally, Fathi expressed his views on Egypt’s playing style saying, “the national team has a clear idea of how to play. We do not change our way of playing no matter who is the opponent and we hope to complete the journey in constant steps until the World Cup in this way.”

This comes after Egyptian manager Hector Cuper stressed on the importance of gaining points over strong performances.
