Three second-half goals gave victory over in gameweek 10 as the Red Devils regained their top position in the table.

Al Ahly now have 26 points, two ahead of second-placed Misr El-Maqassa who have a game in hand. El-Gaish sit seventh in league standings on 16 points, after suffering their first league defeat this season.

The title-holders managed to put pressure on their opponents Tala’a El-Gaish in the early stages of the game yet failed to break the deadlock with the referee turning down Al Ahly’s penalty appeal for handball in the first few minutes.

The Red Devils manager Hossam El-Badry made an early substitution, as Amr El-Sulaya was taken off injured after 12 minutes and was replaced by Mohamed Hany.

El-Gaish had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute after Ahmed Hegazy fouled Mohamed Ashraf inside the penalty box but Al Ahly keeper Sherif Ekramy managed to keep the game goalless after saving Ahmed Eid Abdel-Malek’s weak spot kick.

Right after the penalty, Al Ahly almost scored on the counter-attack but they were denied by a goal-line clearance from El-Gaish defense.

Al Ahly attempted to take the lead before the break but Walid Soliman and Momen Soliman lacked the final touch in front of goal as the first half ended in goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half, El-Badry made his second substitution, bringing on Saleh Gomaa to replace Walid Soliman.

The Red Castle were awarded an indirect free-kick inside the penalty box at the one-hour mark but the El-Gaish defense were able to divert it into a corner.

Al Ahly broke the deadlock 16 minutes from full time as Ahmed Fathi’s cross found Momen Zakaria who slotted home.

Three minutes later, El-Said made it 2-0 as his low shot beat El-Gaish goalkeeper after his initial shot was blocked by the defense.

Nigerian striker Junior Ajayi secured the three points as he scored into an empty net eight minutes from full time to make it 3-0, just two minutes before he made way for Marwan Mohsen. This marked Ajayi’s third league goal in five starts for Al Ahly.

Al Ahly are scheduled to face Nasr Lel Taa’deen, who sit 17th in the standings, on Nov.27.
