Elneny comes off bench as Arsenal thump Omar Gaber’s Basel

Arsenal reached the Champions League round of 16 as Group A winners as their victory was paired with PSG’s 2-2 draw at home to Ludogorets.

The game started with high-intensity pressing from Arsenal, who managed to open the scoring after eight minutes when Lucas Perez tapped home following an assist by Kieran Gibbs.

In a very similar fashion to the first goal, the Spaniard added his second eight minutes later. A shot by Gibbs was parried away by keeper Tomas Vaclik before Perez slotted into an empty net.

Perez completed his first Arsenal hat-trick right after the break, as he collected Sanchez’ pass and slotted home just two minutes into the second half.

The visitors continued to dominate the match and managed to put the game to bed eight minutes after the break with a brilliant play between Sanchez, Ozil and Iwobi. Sanchez played a through ball for Ozil who squared for Iwobi to score his first Champions League goal and make it 4-0 for the Gunners.

Sanchez made way for Elneny with 20 minutes remaining, as the international helped Arsenal maintain possession against his former side.

Substitute Seydou Doumbia pulled a consolation goal for Basel in the 78th minute as he exchanged a one-two with Janko before making it 4-1 with a clinical finish.
