Omar Gaber’s father, Mahmoud, will start coaching Qatari giants as announced by the club.

The father of ex-Zamalek star and current FC Basel leftback, will replace former Turkish coach Bülent Uygun, after Umm Salal terminated his contract by mutual consent. The team recently lost 8-0 to El Sadd in the 11th week of the Qatari Stars League.

Bülent started leading Umm Salal in midway 2013/2014 season and was able to achieve a number of victories, yet, this season, Umm Salal declined and the last catastrophic loss from El Sadd was his last game.

Gaber expressed his excitement towards this new adventure. “During the next period I will work on the team’s psychological aspects especially after the harsh loss against El Sadd,” he said in his introductory press conference. “The team started the season well, but injured players had a big impact on results.”

On Umm Salal’s next match is against Al-Wakrah in the league, Gaber’s first match leading Barzan’s Falcons. The new coach praised Al-Wakrah before the encounter on Saturday. “It is an important match for both teams, I hope we both play a good match that represents the quality of the Qatari Stars League.”

Salal is currently in the seventh place with 13 points.
