Ghana announce final squad for AFCON

head coach named his team’s final squad that will represent the Black Stars during the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.

Ghana, who have finished as runners-up at the last edition of the AFCON after losing to Ivory Coast on penalties, will be playing in Group D alongside , Uganda and Mali in the tournament that will kick off on Jan.14.

Adam Kwarasey was forced out of Ghana’s squad due to injury. Grant also excluded İstanbul Başakşehir Joseph Larweh Attamah, FC Sion forward Ebenezer Assifuah in addition to Majeed Waris who was voted Lorient’s Player of the Month.

Raphael Dwamena, who scored 21 goals in 22 matches with Austrian side SC Austria Lustenau this season and former Misr Al-Maqassa player Nana Poku and Chicago Fire forward David Accam were also excluded from the squad.

Grant recently called up Eniymba FC goalkeeper Fatau Dauda to replace injured Adam Kwarasey.

Al Ahli striker and national team captain Asamoah Gyan will be leading the Black Stars along with prominent Ghanaian players like André Ayew, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Samuel Tetteh, Richard Ofori and Christian Atsu.

Defence: Frank Acheampong (Anderlecht), Harrison Afful (Columbus Crew), John Boye (Sivasspor), Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew), Baba Rahman (Schalke), Andy Yiadom (Barnsley).

Midfielders: Afriyie Acquah (Torino), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Christian Atsu (Newcastle United), Edwin Gyimah (Orlando Pirates), Ebenezer Ofori (AIK Stockholm), Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid), Samuel Tetteh (Leifering), Mubarak Wakaso (Panathinaikos).
