NEW | Ages of AFCON youngsters when El-Hadary made his international debut

On the 26th of March 1996, a 23-year-old goalkeeper made his international debut for . Little did we know would turn out to be the greatest African goalkeeper of all-time.

In a friendly against unfamiliar South Korea, Essam El-Hadary won his first international cap. The legendary keeper went on to make 141 more appearances and counting as he’s expected to start for the Pharaohs in the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nation. Not only that, El-Hadary aims to start for Egypt at the 2018 World Cup in Russia!

El-Hadary, who will be 45 by the time the AFCON kicks off, has won four Africa Cup of Nations medals, being named best goalkeeper in three of those competitions (2006, 2008, 2010).

On January the 15th El-Hadary will become the oldest player in the Africa Cup of Nations. He will come up against some rising stars, some that were not even born when he earned his first international cap!
