new signing  said he acknowledges how big the Red Devils are as a club, confirming that he favoured the Egyptian Premier League leaders over other European sides.

Coulibaly completed his move from Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock to Al Ahly on Tuesday, with the Egyptian giants paying around $800,000 as the transfer fee. The Ivorian centre forward put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

“I know that Al Ahly is one of the biggest clubs in Africa. I am here to achieve new objectives with Al Ahly, domestically and also on continental level. I know it will be a tough mission and I now how big and legendary Al Ahly is since I was a child,” Coulibaly told alahlyegypt.com

“Belonging to this [Al Ahly] club is a golden opportunity for any African player. I know that other clubs inside Africa and maybe inside Egypt aimed to sign me, but I am confident I made the best choice. Maybe returning to Africa was not an easy choice but it is a well studied decision for me. I know that I am now with Africa’s giants and a club that has achieved a lot domestically and in Africa and I aim to have a role in achieving more successes with Al Ahly.”

The 22-year-old striker also revealed he had other offers from Europe and which Al Ahly legend he wishes to personally meet.

“I had European proposals before departing from Scotland but I opted to choose Al Ahly based on my agent’s advise who assured me that I will gain similar benefits to those in Europe in terms of club professionalism. I know well that Al Ahly had the greatest players in Africa but for me I know that Mohamed is one of Al Ahly’s legends from the current generation and I wish to meet him.”

“Coach Hossam El-Badry spoke with me on phone and welcomed me which fascinated me a lot. I will try to earn his and Al Ahly fans’ trust in the coming period,” Coulibaly concluded.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player featured in 21 league games for Kilmarnock this season, scoring eight goals and delivering one assist.
