AFCON MVP Christian Bassogog moves to China
’s star moved to outfit Henan Jianye from Danish side AaB Fodbold for a record fee.

Chinese side Henan Jianye signed Bassogog for $8.7 million, a record transfer for AaB, to become the second Cameroonian player in the Chinese Super League after Stéphane Mbia, who joined Hebei China Fortune last year.

The 21-year-old was named Most Valuable Player in the 2017 AFCON which his country won after beating in the final and said it was an offer that he cannot refuse.

“Now I’ve got an offer I could not refuse, and I look forward to new and exciting experiences in China,” Bassogog said on the Chinese offer.

Christian Bassogog has also thanked his former teammates, coaches, and fans for welcoming him during his stay in Denmark.

“Since the first day I got here, I received great treatment from everyone both inside and outside the club, and I really felt welcome both in the city of Aalborg and at the club,” he added.

“I must say a big special thanks to the supporters and not least my foster family – they all played a big role in the man I am today,” he concluded.

Christian Bassogog joined AaB in 2015 coming from Unites States third tier league side Wilmington Hammerheads in a free transfer, which made AaB club director Allan Gaarde described the transfer as a remarkable one.

“No one could have imagined his rapid development. Beyond his on-field skills, Christian is a happy, well-liked person and we wish him all the best in China and every success in the future,” Gaarde said.

During his time with AaB Fodbod, Bassogog scored four goals and provided three assists in 32 appearances for the four-time Superliga champions.

Earlier this year, Bassogog helped Cameroon lifting their 5th African title after starting all six games, scoring once in the semi-final against .
