Egyptian International featured as Al Ahli suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat at Uzbekistan’s FC Bunyodkor in the fifth round of group-stages.

Al Ahli, who suffered their first defeat in the group stages this season, have missed a huge opportunity to claim a spot in the Round of 16, as the three points would have been enough for the Saudi club to qualify to the next round.

The hosts took a very early lead after just eight minutes through Komilov, who met Khamdamov’s cross with a header into the top right corner.

Nine minutes into the second-half, Shomurodov doubled his team’s lead with a close range finish that found the bottom of the net.

After conceding the second goal, Al Ahli’s manager Christian Gross tried to change the game by introducing new faces, but they failed to change the result.

Despite claiming their first win in the group-stages, FC Bunyodkor remain bottom of the table with three points, as they have no chances of qualifying to the next round.

On the other hand, Al Ahli dropped to second place in Group C with eight points, one point behind leaders UAE’s Al Ain, who defeated third-placed Zob Ahan Esfahan.

The Jeddah-based side will need at least a draw when they host Irani side Zob Ahan on the 8th of May to secure their spot in the Round of 16.
