OFFICIAL: Espérance crowned Tunisian league champions

Espérance have been crowned Tunisian league champions for the 27th time in their history with a 3-0 win over Étoile Sportive du Sahel in the last round of the Championship Group.

Espérance entered the game only one point ahead of Étoile du Sahel knowing that they need at least a draw to lift the league title, and they got what they wanted when they defeated the defending champions 3-0 at home.

Ghailene Chaalali opened the scoreline after just 14 minutes, before defender Ali Machani doubled his side’s lead in the 31st minute. Taha Yassine Khenissi killed the game when he scored his side’s third of game, wrapping up a comfortable win for the Blood & Gold.

Meanwhile, Club Africain secured a place in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third with 16 points, while CS Sfaxien finished fourth in the league table with 12 points. ES Métlaoui and Ben Guerdane finished the season in the fifth and sixth places respectively.

Espérance lead the way as the most successful club in ’s history, winning 27 league titles and 15 Tunisian Cup finals, as well as winning the CAF Champions League title twice in 1994 and 2012.
