Zamalek seal dramatic comeback win against Dakhleya

Posted on May 29, 2017

Zamalek sealed a thrilling 3-4 comeback win against relegated Dakhleya on Sunday night, to maintain their push for CAF Champions League football next season.

In attendance was a special guest: manager, Hector Cuper.

Moruf had the first attempt at goal from a long range shot, but it went directly into the hands of the Dakhleya goalkeeper. A quick response by Benjamin Acheampong with a low drive from the right flank but El-Shennawy cleared the danger.

Hossam Paulo latched onto a cross by Shikabala but failed to get his header on target.

Zamalek broke the deadlock after the half-hour mark as Stanley Ohawuchi skipped past defenders from the edge of the box before slotting his low drive past the keeper.

However, with few minutes before halftime, Benjamin Acheampong – who will be joining Smouha in the summer transfer window – turned Ali Gabr inside-out before restoring parity.

After the break, ex-Zamalek winger Ahmed Samir Farag fired from distance to put Dakhleya in the lead, before Ali Gabr levelled with header from a Shikabala corner.

Osama Ibrahim’s first touch after being brought in as a second half substitute was to handle the ball in the box, and the referee blew for a penalty. Mahmoud Mansour converted the spot to restore Dakhleya’s lead.

There was a final twist; Salah Rico equalized for Zamalek in the 89th minute, seconds before Ahmad Refaat netted the winner.

With this win, Zamalek are now just six points behind second-placed Misr El-Maqassa, with the latter side to face on Monday night.
