The Federation of Football Associations (FUFA) has named former assistant coach Moses Basena and former goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba as their interim coaches following the departure of Serbian manager Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević .

Basena and Kajoba will take over the Uganda cranes for the two World Cup qualification matches against on Thursday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 5.

When asked about his readiness, Basena simply replied “Why not? It’s the job I’ve been doing. Only that I’ve been doing it differently in the past as an assistant.”

Basena has also commented on former coach Micho, who terminated his contract due to unpaid wages, saying: “He [Micho] may have failed or excelled without me but what he achieved with me and Kajoba are team achievements. I wish things remain same in terms of how we’ve been doing the job.”

“We have always had sleepless nights with him on strategizing and the like, that’s how good he was,” Basena added.

FUFA president Moses Magogo has spoken highly of Basena and Kajoba:”As FUFA, we sat as a family and decided that Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba carry on an interim basis until after the Egypt matches home and away. We shall give them all the due support they deserve.”

“When he entrusts us with the job, I also trust the FUFA Executive because I believe they know what it means to manage a national team,” Magogo concluded.

Basena and Kajoba will have their first test when the cranes face Egypt on the 31st of August in Kampala, before travelling to Alexandria on the 5th of September for the return leg against the Pharaohs.
