international Ahmed Hassan Kouka scored Braga’s only goal in their 3-1 defeat against reigning champions Benfica in the Primeira Liga opener.

The game kicked-off with both sides organised at the back, leaving no space for each other. Until Benfica striker Jonas made a beautiful cross for new signing Haris Seferović to score on his debut for the Portuguese champions.

Only ten minutes later Seferović had another effort but it was saved by Braga’s goalkeeper Matheus.

Things only got from bad to worse for Braga as defender Raúl Silva failed to clear the ball with his head giving Jonas enough space to bag Benfica’s second goal of the night in the span of 30 minutes.

Just before half time, Ricardo Esgaio made a brilliant pass to Ahmed Hassan Kouka who scored a stunning chip shot to make it 2-1.

As the second half started, both teams were pumped up with virtuoso displays, and on the 54th minute Kouka scored another goal for Braga, only for the referee to decide he was offside.

Only a few minutes later Benfica’s Eduardo Salvio killed the game as he made it 3-1 ending the hopes of Braga for any comeback.

Braga are still without a win at the Estádio da Luz since December 2014.
