EXCLUSIVE: El-Nenny set for FC Basel move
Egypt midfielder Mohamed El-Nenny is set to sign on loan with FC Basel until end of the season, despite coach Murat Yakin previously hinting that the Swiss champions are no longer pursuing his signature this winter.
KingFut.com has exclusively learnt that after impressing on trial with FC Basel in Spain, 20-year-old El-Nenny is currently finalizing his documents in Egypt in order to fly back to Switzerland tomorrow, where he is expected to sign on loan with Basel till end of the season with the option to buy in the summer for an undisclosed amount.
During his trial in Spain, Egypt’s rising defensive midfielder El-Nenny scored a goal in the four matches he played in the red and blue under Basel coach Murat Yakin.
Despite mainly being tested as a defender, rather than a midfielder, El-Nenny still earned the praise of the coach and players.
“The impression is positive. El-Nenny would be an investment for the future,” Yakin told Swiss media.
“The contracts of Cabral and Gilles Yapi-Yapo who play in the same position run out in the summer.
“Maybe then we will need to bring El-Nenny and watch him again.”
Despite his latter comments, King Fut understands that the Egyptian starlet is still on his way to FC Basel this winter, where he will be likely employed as a defender due to their crowded midfield line this season.
Should El-Nenny seal the move to Basel, he will join Egypt teammate Mohamed Salah at St. Jakob-Park.
