VIDEO: Gedo brace helps Tigers regain second, El-Abd’s Brighton take all 3 points
Big victories all round for the Championship Pharaohs today as Hull City thrashed Birmingham 5-2, aided by two goals from Gedo and two assists from Ahmed Elmohamady. Meanwhile Adam El-Abd’s Brighton maintained their effort for a promotion play-off spot with a 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town.
Hull City had a bright start to the game, the reverse of what happened last week at Bolton. George Boyd put the tigers ahead after 46 seconds of play after beating England goalkeeper Jack Butland and finishing low into the centre of the goal from 12 yards out.
Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ managed to add to that when he controlled a lofted ball from David Meyler and after managing to brush aside the Birmingham centre-back he took a right-footed shot into to the bottom right of the goal, beating Jack Butland in the 11th minute of the game.
Hull City persistently added pressure on Birmingham and managed to score a third in the 32nd minute when Ahmed Elmohamady passed the ball from the right wing to George Boyd who scored his second of the game managing to place the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal from close range.
Soon after the second-half started, Robert Koren beat Bultand after firing a powerful shot into the bottom left corner of the goal from outside the box in the 48th minute.
Gedo added to his impressive tally with a headed goal into the 75th minute after fellow Egyptian Elmohamady delivered a great ball into the 6 yard box with Gedo rising to score Hull City’s 5th of the game. The wonderful goal created by the two Egyptians on the pitch was Gedo’s 5th goal in four home games for the Tigers. Gedo managed to complete the full match for the first time this season without being subbed off annulling speculation that he is unfit. However, Paul McShane replaced Elmohamady in the 88th minute.
Hull City then conceded two late goals from Peter Lovenkrands and Christopher Burke as the game finished 5-2 to the tigers.
Ahmed Fathi once again did not feature in today’s game.
Meanwhile, the defensive paring of Egyptian Adam El-Abd and Mathew Upson once again produced another strong defensive performance from Brighton as they managed to beat Huddersfield Town 4-1 at the Amex Stadium. Jose Ulloa scored a hat-trick with the fourth goal coming from Moreno David Lopez.
Hull City reclaimed second place after Watford drew to Wolves 1-1 the previous day, meaning they are two points ahead of them. They also close the gap on first place Cardiff who lost 2-1 at Middlesbrough to 5 points, however Cardiff still have a game in hand. Brighton City remain in 6th place, the final promotion playoff spot thanks to their win. They are two points behind Leicester who were defeated today by Ipswich Town 1-0 and are only one point ahead of Middlesbrough however they have a game in hand.
