Bradley calls up four more to Egypt squad ahead of World Cup play-off
El-Dakhleya and Egypt U-20 left wing-back Ahmed Samir, midfielder Ahmed Tawfik (Zamalek), and center-backs Mohamed Abdel-Fattah (Wadi Degla) and Mahmoud Alaa (Haras El-Hodoud) were all called up to the national team following the release of eleven players from Al-Ahly.
Ahmed Samir was one of the key players in Rabie Yassin’s side that won the 2013 U-20 African Championship over Ghana and also featured in this summer’s U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Centre-back Abdel-Fattah, who partnered Ahmed Hegazy and played every minute during the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, impressed on trial with Romanian side Poli Timişoara earlier this month.
Egypt, who are the only nation to collect maximum points from World Cup qualifying, are currently preparing for the crucial play-off against Ghana with a closed camp in Cairo.
The first leg between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Pharaohs of Egypt has been shifted from Sunday 13th October to Tuesday 15th October at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The return leg against Ghana will be played among the presence of fans at Cairo’s Air Defense Stadium on November 19 after security clearance was received.
Eleven internationals from Ahly – Sherif Ekramy, Wael Gomaa, Mohamed Naguib, Rami Rabia, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Shedid, Sayed Moawad, Hossam Ashour, Abdullah El-Said, Walid Soliman and Mohamed Abou-Treika – left the national team camp to link up with their club ahead of the CAF Champions League semi-final at Cameroon’s Cotonsport on 6 October.
The Ahly players returned to their club earlier than initially agreed following the cancellation of a proposed 28 September friendly against Sierra Leone, but according to goalkeeping coach Zaki Abdul-Fattah, Egypt will play a friendly against Uganda on Monday ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifier.
Al-Ahly’s eleven internationals are set to report back for national duty after the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final.
