Abdallah Gomaa arrives in Germany ahead of trial with Union Berlin
Saleh Gomaa’s younger brother Abdallah, who turned 18 just a few days ago, arrived in Europe for the first time on Monday from ENPPI ahead of a one-week trial with FC Union Berlin – as mentioned earlier this month.
The Egyptian winger, who almost scored in ENPPI’s 1-0 loss against Al Ahly on Thursday, arrived in Germany from Cairo on Monday with an Egyptian translator, as the player can barely speak English, let alone German.
Gomaa was given a tour upon arrival to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Berlin, where he told German newspaper Bild: “I read on the internet a lot about the good relationship between the fans and Union.”
Coach Uwe Neuhaus (45) was interested in Gomaa after watching his videos. Neuhaus said: “He is flexible. He can play on both wings and as a hängende Spitze (second striker). He has tremendous pace in dribbling.”
Abdallah Gomaa’s older brother Saleh, 20, signed for Portuguese first division side Nacional on loan from ENPPI last Wednesday. Abdallah added: “God willing, I will follow my brother to Europe.”
It is worth noting Gomaa shares the same agent with FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah, Sascha Empacher, who says: “He [Gomaa] is considered one of the greatest talents of Africa. Until 21 January, he is released by his club [on trial]. A transfer could be agreed.”
Gomaa will link up with FC Union Berlin in their training camp in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain, where they will face Bundesliga side SC Freiburg and Romanian champions Steaua Bucureşti.
