Ittihad victorious in Alexandrian derby against Smouha

defeated Alexandria rivals Smouha on Wednesday 3-2 to leap above Al Ahly in second.

Smouha’s dominance was obvious in the first minutes of the game. It took them 14 minutes to score the first goal of the match. Ernst Papa Arko passed the ball to Ahmed Hamoudi exquisitely curled the ball into the net.

The half hour mark saw Za’eem El Thaghr‘s equaliser when Amer Sabry latched onto Fathi Mabrouk’s free-kick from the left-hand side and headed into the back of the net.

Towards the end of the half, Hany El Egeizy tried  a clever chip over Aly Farag, but the ball went over the bar.

After a lively first half, Ittihad put themselves ahead 26 minutes into the second half when Ahmed Sherwida received Ibrahim El Shayeb’s cross infront of goal and finished past Ahmed Yehia.

Minutes later, Sherwida scored his second goal of the game when Ayman Said took advantage of Smouha’s defensive error and found the former U-20 international who scored from 2o yards out.

Smouha managed to pull one back in injury time with a great team move which was finished off by Ibrahim Abdel-Khalek.

The two Alexandrian clubs are now first and second respectively, but have played two games more than Al Ahly.
