Senegal squad revealed for final AFCON qualifying fixtures

Diafra Sakho Senegal and West Ham United

announced today their 23-man squad for the highly anticipated final Group G 2015 AFCON qualifiers.

Senegal travel to Cairo for the group’s nail-biting clash against Egypt on 15th of November, before finishing the campaign at home to Botswana on the 19th.

Coach Alain Griesse called upon striker Diafra Sakho for the first time in the qualifiers. The United striker is currently his club’s top scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions. He has six goals in six starts in the league, including ’s winner against champions Manchester City.

Sakho adds to a strong Senegalese front-line which includes fellow Premier League forwards Sadio Mané, Papiss Cissé and Mame Diouf while Besiktas’ Demba Ba has been left out.

The Senegalese sit in second place in the group with seven points, three behind leaders Tunisia and one point above third placed Egypt. The top two teams from each of the seven groups, plus the best third placed team, join the hosts for the tournament due to kick-off in Morocco in January.

Senegal Squad:

Goalkeepers: Bouna Coundoul (Ethnikos – Cyprus), Pape Demba Camara (Sochaux – France) and Mamadou Ba (Boavista – Portugal).

Defenders:  Pape Ndiaye Souaré (Lille – France), Cheikh Mbengue (Rennes – France), Kara Mbodj (Genk – Belgium), Papy Djilobodji (Nantes – France), Boukary Dramé (Atalanta –  Italy) and Zargo Touré (Le Havre – France).

Midfielders: Pape Alioune Ndiaye (FK Bodø/Glimt – Norway), Stéphane Badji (Brann – Norway), Idrissa Gana Guèye (Lille – France), Mohamed Diamé (Hull City – England), Alfred Ndiaye (Bétis Séville – Spain) Salif Sané (Hannover 96 – Germany) and Pape Kouly Diop (Levante – Spain).

Forwards: Sadio Mané (Southampton – England), Papiss Demba Cissé (Newcastle – England), Dame Ndoye (Lokomotiv – Russia), Diafra Sakho (West Ham – England), Mame Birame Diouf (Stoke City – England) and Moussa Sow (Fenerbahçe – Turkey).
