Sepp Blatter urges EFA to resume domestic football
Sepp Blatter has urged the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Gamal Allam to resume football activity in the country, to benefit “the entire Egyptian population.”
Gamal Allam, president of the EFA, received a fax from FIFA president Sepp Blatter this morning to express his support and advise the resumption of the Egyptian Premier League.
Blatter stated that the return of football in Egypt is crucial following the Air Defence Stadium tragedy earlier this month, in which at least 22 Zamalek fans were killed, as he insisted it will benefit “the entire Egyptian population.”
The FIFA president also included in his letter that football is being played all over the world and in more disturbed areas because its main aim is to bring hope and”build bridges and help heal divisions.”
Blatter had previously offered his condolences to the Egyptian football community following the tragic events, and said FIFA “are ready to provide the Egyptian Football Association with any support they may need in dealing with the aftermath of this event.”
Hany Abo Rida, an Egyptian FIFA Executive Committee member, had requested to give the families of the victims a donation from FIFA, and Sepp Blatter revealed it has been “forwarded to the FIFA Finance Committee for decision at its next meeting.”
