Sisi mourns Zamalek fans, says culprits will be punished
Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that any official who was negligent in the killing of Zamalek fans will be punished.
El-Sisi began his speech on Sunday by mourning Egyptians killed in Sinai, Zamalek football stampede and Libya.
“Whoever (official) is responsible will be held accountable,” he said in a televised statement.
This was the first time for the Egyptian president to tackle the incident known in the media as the “Air Defense tragedy” that took place on 8 February leaving at least 20 Zamalek fans dead.
El-Sisi said the case is currently in front of the general prosecution and asserted that measures will be taken once investigations are concluded.
“We do not want these issues, despite their importance, to make us skeptical of each other… we have no benefit in neglecting or stepping over people’s rights,” El-Sisi said.
