Mohamed Salah scores off the bench but Torino snatch a late equalizer to hold Fiorentina 1-1 in Serie A.

The 22-year-old Egyptian winger was given a rest ahead of Fiorentina’s crucial Europa League clash against Tottenham this week, as he started on the bench. Viola coach Vincenzo Montella had said during his pre-match comments: “I don’t know if Salah can play 4 games in a row, but he does give me real guarantees.”

Fiorentina struggled to break the deadlock with Senegal striker Khouma Babacar missing a penalty 10 minutes in, and with the score remaining 0-0 after 65 minutes, Montella gave Salah the green light to enter the pitch, replacing Italian international Alessandro Diamanti.

The Egyptian international opened the scoring just 5 minutes before stoppage time after a one-touch pass between him and Alberto Gilardino – who replaced Babacar – before Salah shot it into the back of the net to claim a late first goal for the Viola.

It is worth noting that this was Salah’s 2nd Serie A goal for the Viola in just 4 appearances, after scoring in the 3-1 away victory against Sasoulo.

Just when it looked as if Salah secured the 3 points, Giuseppe Vives equalized for il Toro, just two minutes after Fiorentina’s goal.

Fiorentina will host Spurs in their next game – the 2nd leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie on Thursday. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at the White Hart Lane with Salah playing the entire match.
