VIDEO: Ghazal, Gomaa feature as Nacional draw with Porto

Nacional vs Porto

and both featured as Nacional held to a 1-1 draw at the Estádio da Madeira.

With Benfica’s loss against Koka’s Rio Ave earlier in the day, FC Porto had the chance to move to within a point of the Lisbon side with a win this evening, but a poor performance seen them leave Madeira with just a point, as Nacional battled to a well-earned 1-1 draw with Ghazal and Gomaa both putting in solid performances in midfield.

Porto opened the scoring just before half-time when Cristian Tello cut in on his left foot one the edge of the 18-yard box to curl the ball past Gottardi. The Barcelona loanee now has eight goals for the season and has proved himself to be the club’s most important player in 2015.

After 53 minutes, Casemiro was replaced by Rúben Neves, and this would prove to costly, as the midfield quickly turned to chaos with Nacional gaining a foothold in the game, which led to them equalising less than ten minutes later when Sequeira’s defence-splitting pass was tapped in from close-range by Wagner.

Nacional came close to a second goal with 20 minutes remaining, but Lucas João blazed his effort over the bar from point-blank range from a Gomaa pass.

Porto were rattled, and their lack of desire throughout the game was evident and they never really looked likely to snatch the three points as Nacional’s midfield trio of Gomaa, Ghazal and Christian worked well to stop counter-attacks, while the defence remained solid.

Nacional worked well for their point, and their fantastic run of form at home since the turn of the year continues, and they’re now just seven points off a Europa League spot with eight games remaining.

Next up for Nacional is a trip to the Estádio da Luz to play Benfica after the international break, while Porto’s next game at home to Estoril, before they travel to Vila do Conde to take on Koka’s Rio Ave.
