Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ is very close to joining Benfica, according to reports in Portuguese media.

Despite interest from Galatasaray, Basel and Sporting Lisbon, Portuguese rivals Benfica are now the front-runners to sign the Egyptian striker.

According to Portuguese newspapers Record and O Jogo, Koka, along with teammates Diego Lopes and goalkeeper Ederson are already in Lisbon, having completed their medical examinations and signed their contracts. They are to be presented as Benfica players this week. Diego Lopes and Ederson have played for Benfica at a youth level earlier in their careers and the shot stopper is expected to join the Portuguese champions this week.

Koka was Rio Ave’s top scorer this season, having scored 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions. However, he missed the latter part of the season due to injury. His last match was in March precisely against Benfica.
