Four Egyptians reach Alexandria Women’s International Squash Open quarters

The second day of the second round of the Alexandria Women International Open taking place in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina was concluded on Sunday. The Egyptians won their matches, making a total of four Egyptians in the quarter-finals.

English Laura Massaro defeated American/Egyptian Amanda Sobhy 3-1 in 45 minutes booking her place in the quarters. Amanda is representing the USA and is currently ranked world number 11. Egyptian Nour El-Sherbini, world number 7, had no trouble as she had an easy match against England’s Jenny Duncalf. Nour defeated Jenny 3-0 in only 25 minutes.

World number 2 Egyptian Raneem El-Welily defeated India’s Dipika Pallikal 3-1 in 41 minutes to face French Camille Serme who beat Guyanese Nicolette Frenandez in 33 minutes booking the final seat in the quarter finals.

In the quarter-finals, which are scheduled to take place on June 8, Nour El-Tayeb will be facing World number 1 Nicol David, while Omneya Abdel-Kawy is set to play against Alison Waters. Nour El-Sherbiny will compete against Laura Massaro, while Raneem El-Welily will face Camille Serme.

Youssef Wael is a massive Al Ahly and Manchester United supporter from Cairo, Egypt. One of the few Egyptians who never really wanted to have a career in football, just played it as a hobby. Wael also played squash for 7 years.
