Urs Fischer appointed new head coach of FC Basel

Urs Fischer has been appointed the new head coach of Swiss league champions  following the departure of Paulo Sousa. 

FC Basel agreed a deal with fellow Swiss league side FC Thun over the services of Urs Fischer after the departure of Paulo Sousa.

The former FC Thun manager has signed a two-year deal with an option to extend.

In his youth Urs Fischer played for FC St. Gallen and FC Zurich, the latter which he managed from 2010 to 2012.

He then went onto to manage FC Thun where he had a more successful stint taking them to the Europa League and earned the Swiss Football Coach of the Year award in 2014.

The former Switzerland international joins two current Egypt internationals at FC Basel, Mohamed El-Nenny and Ahmed Hamoudi.

Meanwhile, Paulo Sousa is expected to take the helm of Fiorentina, where Mohamed Salah has yet to make a decision over his future, following the sacking of manager Vincenzo Montella.
