Aston Villa sign Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye

English Premier League side Aston Villa has completed the transfer of Senegalese international midfielder Idrissa Gueye from Lille for £9 million.

Gueye spent his whole career at the Ligue 1 club, starting in the youth ranks of Lille before making his senior debut in 2010.

He has since gone on to feature 135 times for Les Dogues and in addition to becoming an integral Lille player, Gueye has secured 18 caps for the Senegalese senior national team.

Gueye was a staple in the Senegalese side of the 2015 African Cup of Nations and started Senegal’s first 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi, which ended in a 3-1 win for Les Lions.

Senegal were drawn into group K alongside Niger, Burundi, and Namibia for the 2017 AFCON qualifiers.
