VIDEO: Raja Casablanca clinch UNAF Cup, Ismaily finish second

Both matches ended in draws on the final day of UNAF Cup fixtures as completed their coronation while Ismaily confirmed second place.

Ismaily 2-2

Ismaily XI; Magdy- Saad, Taha, Shawky, Bahaa- Hamad, Emad, Fathy- Kareem, Kenneth, Banahene.

Club Africain XI; Mustapha- Ifa, Karoui, Mikari, Khalil- Ben Yahia, Ouedhrefi, Nater, Belaid, Meniaoui- Khelifa.

This was the highlight of the day as there was a second place finish to contest for. Club Africain started the stronger of the two, testing Magdy early on but the Dervishes struck first. Against the run of play, Hamad slotted home a long throw-in from close range. Ismaily gained some ascendancy after the goal but the Tunisians retained control of the game.

They wouldn’t score though till early in the second half courtesy of Saber Khelifa. Nater played a through ball over the Ismaily defence and the striker finished. There was a moment of amusement after as the Club Africain team embraced their coach in celebration. The coach, Daniel Sanchez, is reported to be headed for exit. After much control by their opponents, Ismaily retook the lead. Bahaa’s cross coming from a counterattack was deflected in by Ben Yahia. Seifedine Jaziri slid home the equalizer late on but it didn’t help much as his side ended up third in the competition.

Raja Casablanca 0-0

Having been already been confirmed champions; Raja’s fixture today was merely a formality. The side fielded was largely a ‘B’ team and this gave some respite to winless Al Hilal Benghazi. The whipping boys managed to ganner a point in what was largely a pedestrian encounter. Raja Casablanca become the third team to clinch the UNAF Cup.

I have dedicated part of my time in this bad world to following African football. From CECAFA to WAFU, COSAFA to UNAF & even the forgotten UNIFFAC.
