Hossam Ghaly, Mohamed Ibrahim likely to miss derby

With the the Egyptian Cup final looming, injuries continue to shake up Al Ahly and Zamalek squads.

Midfield veteran, Hossam Ghaly, and newly acquired Mohamed Ibrahim are likely to miss out the Egyptian Cup final on Monday due to injuries.

Ahmed Ayoub, Al Ahly’s assistant coach, has assured that Ghaly would miss the finale due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the semi-final match against Petrojet.

Ayoub added that the club’s medical staff haven’t decided if Malick Evouna would be ready to play after he picked up an injury during the team’s game against Stade Malien.

The Red Devils also welcomed the return of John Antwi from an ankle injury. The Ghanian has resumed normal training and should be ready for the match after missing matches against Petrojet and Stade Malien.

As for Zamalek’s squad, according to several news reports, Mohamed Ibrahim is likely to miss the match against rivals Al Ahly after sustaining an ankle injury against Smouha in the cup semi-final. The winger is undergoing rehabilitation in the gym and did not train with the team.

Zamalek will also be without the services of Ibrahim Salah, who is recovering from an ankle injury.

The White Castle boast the return of Ayman Hefny, who completed the training session together with the team’s top scorer, Bassem Morsi. Both players are expected to return to the squad.

Al Ahly bested Zamalek 4-3 in extra time the last time they met in the 2006/2007 Egyptian Cup final.
