VIDEO: Kahraba’s goal sends Zamalek to league summit


Zamalek have advanced to the top of the table after a 1-0 victory against struggling in the 14th round of the league.

Bassem Morsi was close to open the scoring in the 13th minute with an excellent header from inside the area but El-Shorta’s goalkeeper Amr Hossam saved the ball.

Mahmoud Kahraba put the White Knights in the lead in the 15th minute with a shot from inside the box after El-Shorta’s defence failed to properly clear Shikabala’s cross.

A minute later, while Zamalek players were still celebrating the goal, El-Shorta were very close to tie the game in a one-on-one ball; however, Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy managed to save it.

Shikabala almost scored the second goal for Zamalek in the 34th minute with a wonderful shot, but El-Shorta’s goalkeeper deflected the ball to a corner.

In the 65th minute, Ahmed Hamoudi was replaced by Ayman Hefny, who was a great threat to El-Shorta’s defense. Eleven minutes later, Zamalek manager Ahmed Hossam Mido made his second substitution placing Ibrahim Salah instead of Shikabala.

Ten minutes to full time, Mostafa Fathy came on to replace Bassem Morsi who hasn’t scored in his last 12 matches since his brace against Al Ahly in the Egypt Cup Final. Fathy almost scored in the 90th minute, but his shot went wide.

Zamalek and Misr El-Maqqasa currently top the league with 27 points; however, Zamalek still have two games in hand. The White Knights have now kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league for the first time this season.

Ittihad El-Shorta however remained in the 16th position of the league table with eight points from 13 games.

Zamalek are set to face Al Masry, while El-Shorta will play against Tala’a El-Gaish on Wednesday.
