Volleyball: Egypt’s women lose to Cameroon in final of Olympic African qualifiers

Egypt’s women national team lost to Cameroon 3-2 in the final of the 2016 Olympics African Qualifiers in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.

Egypt qualified to the final after defeating Kenya in the Championship semi-final on monday3-2.

Cameroon won the first set comfortably 25-14, Egypt’s women responded strongly however, winning the next two sets 27-25 and 25-21 to lead Cameroon 2-1 after two sets in the match.

Egypt needed to win the third set to win the match and book their ticket to Rio De Janiero directly, but Cameroon, who were playing at home managed to win the fourth set narrowly 25-23 to take the match to tiebreaker set, where they won comfortably 15-7 to book their ticket to Rio.

Aya El-Shami was Egypt’s top scorer in the match with 22 points, followed by Nada Moawad with 15.

Egypt will now get another chance to qualify to Rio after qualifying to the World Olympic Qualification Tournament after coming second in the African qualifiers.
