Ramadan Sobhy: I support Real Madrid
Egypt and Al Ahly youngster Ramadan Sobhy spoke to Alhayat TV about his performances on the field, his goals as a football player, upcoming matches with the Egyptian national team, and his favorite European club.
The talented winger is part of a 24-man squad of local players announced by Egypt head coach Héctor Cúper in preparation for the friendly match against Burkina Faso.
Sobhy was very optimistic of his teammates, explaining that football players should focus in practice in order to improve and perform during actual matches.
“Every player works hard [in training] to reach new heights on the pitch. My teammates and I still have more to prove and to perform even better on the pitch,” said Sobhy.
“Working hard in training and taking care of health and fitness will helps players perform well on the pitch in important matches.”
“Players want to win titles with their clubs and to perform well in order to get a national team call-up, and then play abroad. It is an honor for anyone to represent his country,” remarked the 18-year-old.
“I work hard because I want to continue playing for the Egyptian national team and play abroad,” he claimed.
Despite being one of the youngest players in Al-Ahly’s squad, Ramadan Sobhy explained that he isn’t affected by the opinions of the people and he focuses only on his team and improving himself.
“I don’t feel pressure on the pitch anymore. I don’t try harder if the people are criticizing me, nor do I feel relaxed if people think I performed well last match. I get on the field and try to do what is asked of me. However, I have to improve and there’s a lot of room for that,” the Egyptian said.
“Angry on the field? No, not anymore. I am just disappointed when players try hard for only 60 minutes of a 90 minute game, and then try to waste the remaining time. We should look at players abroad. Barcelona and Real Madrid players continue giving their all even when they’re losing by a big margin,” he explained.
Sobhy’s answer to the previous question prompted the interviewer to ask him who he supports in Europe, and Sobhy said: “Real Madrid, unfortunately. It looks like they won’t be winning anything this season as well. Barcelona seem to be headed for another treble.”
Finally, Ramadan Sobhy commented on the national team camp’s atmosphere and the player’s desire to win their upcoming matches in order to qualify to the 2017 AFCON: “The national team camp is focused on the clash with Nigeria. We don’t talk about past games. We are here training and preparing for the match against Burkina Faso, in order to prepare for the match against Nigeria.”
“The match against Burkina Faso will be very tough and we have been training seriously for four days,” he concluded.
