VIDEO: Al Ahly overcome Ittihad El-Shorta in eight-goal thriller

Al Ahly cemented their spot as leaders, after a thrilling game against in the 23rd round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Chances came on flowing early for Al Ahly, with Abdallah El-Said almost giving them the lead in the 15th minute with a volley.

The first goal of the game came in the 17th minute as Momen Zakaria scored from a header, converting a brilliant cross from Hussein el-Sayed.

The Red Devils’ second goal of the night came in the 22nd minute, as Ahmed Fathi netted a delightful strike from outside the box, following up a pass from Amr Gamal.

Al Ahly were later on awarded a penalty in the 27th minute which Abdallah El-Said missed, and the score remained 2-0 for the next 20 minutes.

In the 44th minute, Ittihad El-Shorta’s Mohamed Abdel-Salam scored into his own net to put Al Ahly 3-0 up.

One minute into extra-time, Ahmed Fathi went on to get his brace for the night as he scored again from outside the box, as the Red Devils dominated the game and upped their score to 4-0.

Right before the half-time whistle, Ittihad El-Shorta were awarded a penalty which Salah Rico converted into their first goal of the night.

The teams went into the tunnel with Al Ahly 4-1 up.

The Red Devils kicked off the second half with a loss of concentration and a leaked defence, as Ittihad El-Shorta managed to get two goals back in the space of five minutes.

Abdulaye Cisse, who was introduced in the beginning of the second half, went on to score a brace.

Four minutes in, Cisse converted a header after a moment of disturbance in Al Ahly’s defence.

In the 55th minute, following yet another mistake from the Red Devils’ defence, a misplaced pass lead to Cisse scoring from outside the box.

In the 78th minute, Amr Gamal scored Al Ahly’s fifth and last goal of the night, following some brilliant footwork from Ramadan Sobhy who slashed through El Shorta’s defenders.

Following this thriller, Al Ahly remain first with 50 points while Ittihad El-Shorta are locked on 16th place in the relegation zone with 16 points.
