FC Basel have reached an agreement with for the transfer of the Ivorian striker for one-season long with an option to buy.

The Swiss club have confirmed on their website that they have secured the signature of the Ivorian striker. It is reported that FC Basel have an option to buy Doumbia for 6.5 million Euros at the end of the season.

After joining AS Roma from CSKA Moscow in the 2015 winter transfer window, Doumbia failed to make an impact with the Italian side during his short stint, scoring just two goals in 14 appearances.

The 28-year-old striker was then loaned out to his previous club, CSKA Moscow, before joining Newcastle United on loan for the remainder of last season. He only managed three substitute appearances for The Magpies.

Doumbia is reportedly signed in order to replace Breel Embolo, who recently left the Swiss champions for Schalke FC.

It’s well worth mentioning that Basel have the option of signing Doumbia at the end of his loan spell for the reported 6.5 million Euros.

Seydou Doumbia represented Ivory Coast on 33 occasions, and was part of the Ivorian side which won the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

With the signing of Seydou Doumbia, Basel add another African on their roster after signing Omar Gaber weeks ago.
